Skin Types
I firmly believe that no one skins is perfect and that is why we are all so beautiful because our so called “flaws and imperfections” make us unique and beautiful
I believe that instead of trying to completely fight or correct our skin "problems" we should work with them and have them accommodate to us and work for us (reverse psychology lol)
The first step to doing this is to know what type of skin we have and what our personal needs are
Companies and the beauty industry has divided us into 4 major skin types, which I do not necessarily think is the most convenient and truthful way of doing things, but none the less easy to understand
So here is a basic break down this is how I understand this topic from personal experience and research I do hope it helps some of you
Please make sure to comment and let me know what you think constructive criticism is always welcome, helpful input is always better : )
Normal Skin Type
Usually the best to work with does not need any extra moisturizing, easy to find matches of products, does not have major problems with shininess or dryness, may experience a bit of either or both but not in major ways
People with normal skin types can go ahead and forget about moisturizing creams, however should not take for granted using products with nutrients and hydrating properties
Dry Skin Types
People with dry skin have problems with the feel of their skin mostly, their skin may feel tight, dry, it may look flaky and blotchy as well as have some irritation due to extreme external environments
It is very important to drink lots of water and use extra moisturizers, as well as nutrients and hydrating products
For dry skin types it is also very important to apply your make up products with a definite technique stippling is ok but buffing and blending can be problematic because when you apply your make up in a buffing/blending mode all you do is aggravate the problem by minimizing the amount on moisture that goes into the skin from the products you use by micro-dermabration which occurs from the buffing motions and you make your skin need more hydration which by definition your own skin won’t produce, it is my recommendation to use stippling motions light blending with a wet sponge preferably
Combination Skin Types
Maybe the most complex and hard to pin point in only a couple of lines but basically it is a mixture of both Normal and Oily or Dry and Oily or all of the above, combination skin types tend to change with climate, external environments, internal biology etc. and yes it is possible for combination skin types to change within an 8 hours period
These skin types tend to get shinny spots just around the famous T-zone which in fact are the areas normally high by bone structure, the forehead nose and high cheekbones. Also they will get either normal or dry spots in the outer parts of the face places closer to the outer of the face and closer to the hair line of neck
My biggest recommendation not to be afraid of using various products to accommodate to your needs there are products which are targeted for this skin type but I personally see no fault in using 2 or more products to accommodate to your different spots, yes it may be more money to spend and time consuming but will pay off in the long run
Just remember these rules
Like repels like
Opposites attract
Water and Oil don’t mix
Silicone breaks down both water and oil (in the beauty world of products at least)
If you are going to take this advice and use more than one product in your face do it within a round of discretion and know that some products are not meant to be used together so be careful yet adventurous
And last but not least
Oily Skin
People who have oily skin tend to see excessive oil, shininess and moisture to their skin as the day goes by
Oily skin problems come from the skin over producing oils which it won’t use up
Products very friendly to this skin type are blotting paper, loose powder and cream foundations, bases and primers
One very controversial topic which I almost don’t want to include in my post is the use of moisturizers
I just want to post this idea for you guys why would anyone with oily skin want to moisturize and therefore add more oil to their skin if the whole problem is the excess of it? companies who want to sell their products will sell you products for oily skin in the following manner, they will have a 2-3 step system which will consist of a face wash which is entirely to abrasive and will strip your face of all oil, well great but that will only make your skin be defensive and want to create more oil, they will then give you a toner usually based of alcohol which as it sounds it's horrible for your skin and then to alleviate all of this they will sell you a moisturizer so what you are actually doing to your skin is taking it in roller coaster I see no logic to this yet we have been so deeply founded with the idea of buying such products that this topic is bound to cause controversy in the time I have been interested in this topic and all the research I have done, I have not found one serious lab research which supports the companies’ stand point

I say to all of you who have oily skin work with it do not fight it work with it use the extra shiny in your skin to your advantage why go out and buy extra high lighters if you own body provides you with them
I say hydrate your skin, drink lots of water, use mild products that wont completely strip your skin, make sure you provide enough nutrients to it and most of all do not I repeat to do not moisturize it more than it ask for, just because everyone else says you need to moisturize no matter what it doesn't mean they are right if your skin needs it trust me it will ask for it
A great way to know if you skin needs any extra moisture is by listening to it when you apply any moisturizing cream product if your skin needs it, it will consume it immediately if it does not need it you will end up with a greasy feeling your skin won’t use the product and in return in an effort to defend itself will create even more oil
Now, as I said before these are just the "main categories" in which the beauty industry has divided us but it does not end here there is such thing as acne prone, dehydrated skin, sensitive, mature... my point is that there is no real formula to determine what products will work for everyone I would say next time you are at the make up counter and wondering if something is going to work for you get a sample and try it the product for a couple of days if your skin reacts positively to it then go ahead and buy the full product if it doesn't no big deal, simply move on, also remember your skin may change and so you may need to change the products to accommodate it change is good and if you ask me in this case change is fun.
